Stevens, Hulda (18 May1883 - 20 May 1952)

Mrs. Hulda Fisher Stevens, a resident of this community (Loyal, Clark Co., Wis.) the past 47 years, passed away at the Bethel Convalescent Home at Arpin, Wis., Tuesday, May 20, 1952, after being a patient there the past 6 months.  She has been entirely helpless for nearly two years.

The funeral services were conducted Friday afternoon, May 23, at Salem Lutheran Church, Veefkind, of which she had been a member since its beginning.  A large concourse of relatives, friends and neighbors gathered to pay homage to the memory of one whom they had known and esteemed.  Interment was made in the parish cemetery.  The Rev. E. E. Aalto officiated.

Hulda Hildebrandt, born May 18, 1883 in Germany, was the daughter of Carl and Hanne Hildebrandt, who came to this country and settled in Spencer when she was a year and a half old.  She received her education and Christian training in Spencer schools, was confirmed in Trinity Lutheran Church, Spencer.

On Oct. 25, 1905 she was united in marriage to John G. Fisher of the town of Sherman, the ceremony taking place in Trinity Lutheran Church, spencer.  He preceded her in death on Jan. 22, 1931.  To this union six children were born: Martin Fisher, Spencer, Arthur Fisher, Marshfield, Mrs. Adelbert (Hulda) Draves, Milwaukee, Wilbur and Eldon, Wis. Rapids.  One son, Eldor, preceded her in death.

She was married to Chauncey Stevens on Nov. 3, 1937 in Salem Lutheran Church, Veefkind, who also survives her.  She also leaves to mourn her loss, one step-son, Ross Stevens, Spencer, eleven grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Alma Much, Embarrass, five brothers, Henry Hildebrandt, Moon, Charles Hildebrandt, Marshfield, William Hildebrandt, Bonduel, Albert Hildebrandt, Embarrass and Frank Hildebrandt, California.

Serving as pallbearers were Martin Fisher, Arthur Fisher, Wilbur Fisher, Eldon Fisher, Adelbert Draves and Ross Stevens.  Those having charge of the many beautiful floral tributes from friends and relatives from far and near, were: Mrs. John Bymore, Mrs. Albert Tews, Mrs. Elmer Horn, Mrs. Esther Peterson, Mrs. Lowell Schultz, Mrs. Minnie Fornsowrth, Mrs. Stena Rossman, Mrs. Wm. Reinheimer, Mrs. Ruth Kissinger, Mrs. Martha Kline, Mrs. Albert Vanderhoof, Mrs. Paul Stargardt, Mrs. Neta Schroeder, Mrs. Cora Dietsche, Mrs. Harry Follen and Miss Cora Reinheimer.

Miss Wanda Nysted sang "I’m But a Stranger Here" and "Nearer My God To Thee," with Miss Jeanne Nysted as organist.

Relatives and friends from away attending the funeral came from Milwaukee, Plymouth, Sheboygan, Wausau, Clintonville, Bonduel, Iola, Wis. Rapids, Arpin, Fenwood, Moon, Mosinee, Desterville, Babcock, Humbird, Granton, Marshfield, Chili, Unity, Spencer, Loyal and Arlington Heights, Ill.
